TEMPORARY CHOIR DIRECTOR

Olympia First Baptist Church is seeking a Temporary Choir Director.

This is an hourly/part time position with 10 hours maximum a week.

A bachelor’s degree in music with 5 years minimum experience preferred.


Skills needed: As a practicing Christian, understand the place and purpose of Christian worship; possess a blended musical appreciation which compliments both contemporary and traditional church music styles. Excellent choral conducting skills; ability to work with all levels of musicians. Familiarity with and willingness to include a broad range of music for congregational singing. Personable and friendly. Interested in people of all ages, creative and relational skills and musically equipped.


  • Work closely with Church Organist when developing Choir and congregational selections
  • Direct Chancel Choir
  • Choose weekly Choir music
  • Plan and schedule musical events with pastoral staff
  • Lead congregational singing
  • Coordinate the selection of worship music with Pastors
  • Submit necessary information for bulletins in a timely fashion, as required by the church office
  • Meet with music committee to nurture and coordinate the support of Church music committee
  • Research new music to introduce to the Choir and congregation
  • Schedule and conduct Choir performance and rehearsals
  • Encourage membership in the Choir and utilize other musical talents within the church community as possible
  • Arrange for substitutes when necessary
  • Purchase necessary music, with budget
  • Provide proper notice to the Church office if unable to be at scheduled practices, services or events.
