Update as of: 8/13/24
Thank you to all those who stayed for the Congregational meeting this past Sunday. It was a good beginning to the process of revising the church by-laws and constitution. Thanks also to Mike Cooper, Jodi Honeysett and Sandi Swarthout for their leadership. Mike and Jodi walked us through the changes they have been discussing and working through the past couple of months as the Task Force assigned to this rewrite. It was also nice to get some feedback from people as well as clarifying questions and statements.
Below are the 2 documents that were passed out on Sunday, for those who are interested. The first is a summary of proposed changes to our Leadership structure as well as Boards and Committees. The second is the “Respect Communication Guidelines” that our Evergreen Region uses, that we are hoping to adopt, along with a short summary of Consensus – making, which is also under consideration to become our church’s decision-making mechanism.
If you have any questions, feel free to reach out:
We will share the project objective, process (including an overview of elements in the Constitution that will be addressed), timelines and proposed changes to the bylaws.
We encourage your involvement and request feedback be directed to Mike and Jodi.
The Groups at this gathering will be broken down into our current Boards and Committees.
Since there will be some suggested changes involved in the bylaws that could alter some of the responsibilities and/or focus of the current board structure, the Executive Council felt it was important to have a time dedicated for those currently serving on our existing boards and committees. This allows for them to see proposed changes, ask questions, and gather feedback.
We hope to have actual draft language for the Executive Council to review, which we will be able to share with the congregation at the next congregational gathering in September.
We are targeting this meeting to share the draft language and seek your feedback. As a potential backup plan, this date would update you on the issues we’ve identified and are continuing to work on, solicit feedback and try to identify any outstanding areas of concern and or conflict.
It is the Executive Council’s desire that you will be involved in this process and ask any questions, concerns, etc., that you may have as we make our way through this revision process.
We want to be open to one another, transparent, and honest as we move forward.
Our goal is that by the time of the Annual Meeting in November, we will have come to consensus on whatever the final Draft may be and that we will be able to affirm the work we have done, together.
